Next, you’ll explore local markets and craft centers, where you can experience the vibrant culture and perhaps purchase some unique souvenirs. Start your day early with a hearty breakfast at the lodge to prepare for the adventure ahead. At 7:00 AM, you will arrive at the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers who will explain the guidelines and what to expect during the trek. You will then be assigned a gorilla family and set off into the dense forest of Volcanoes National Park. The trek can vary in length depending on the location of the gorillas, but the experience is incredibly rewarding. Once you find the gorillas, you will have one hour to observe and photograph these magnificent creatures as they go about their daily lives. After this unforgettable experience, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you can choose to visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where you will learn about the local culture and traditions, or enjoy a guided nature walk in the park. The evening is at your leisure to relax and enjoy dinner at the lodge.

The golden monkeys are an endangered species found only in the Virunga mountains, and this trek offers a unique opportunity to see them up close. The trek starts with a briefing at the park headquarters, after which you will venture into the bamboo forests of the park. Watching the golden monkeys is a delightful experience as they leap through the trees and play in the forest. After spending time with the monkeys, return to the lodge to freshen up and check out. Enjoy lunch at the lodge or take a packed lunch for the journey. In the afternoon, you will drive back to Kigali, where you can spend some time shopping or exploring more of the city, depending on your flight schedule.
